One of the biggest luxuries in life is travel. And if flying private is the icing on the cake, then owning your own plane is the cherry on top. However, it’s not as easy as buying a car and driving it straight out of the showroom. There are countless expenses, legal procedures and maintenance costs that need to be taken into account. If, however, you are flying more than 350 hours per year, the costs and issues in owning your very own private jet are usually justified. Here at Luxwing, we currently have a fleet of 11 planes, and we’ve used that experience to help others in getting the best deals when purchase planes too! So if you need some help finding a plane and getting through the process, give us a call, and we’ll help find you the plane of your dreams.
The price to purchase for a private jet varies tremendously. If you’re looking at new jets, then small planes which can hold around 8 passengers range between $3 million – $8 million. Whereas a large plane which can hold up to 12 passengers and travel more than 4,000 miles may cost anything up to $45 million dollars.
Alternatively, a second hand plane is always an option, but with that come several issues you should be aware of. Although the plane can cost considerably less, second hand jets often run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in repair bills, especially if they aren’t yet meeting all of the industry regulations. This can ground your bargain plane for months, and the problems are likely to keep popping up regularly. On the other hand, new planes are normally sold with a 5-year warranty, which although doesn’t cover your day-to-day wear and tear, is certainly a welcomed benefit. This is not to say that buying a second hand jet is a bad idea, it’s just good practice to have an expert on hand to make sure you’re getting what you pay for.
After finding the perfect plane, you’ll probably want to look at adding a few personal touches, and depending on budget the world is your oyster. From solid gold showers and hot tubs, to dining rooms and movie theatres. There is little designers can’t do nowadays. However, a full interior overhaul by a professional designer will set you back a hefty $85 million! If instead, you decide you don’t need so many premium fixtures, a simpler interior revise stars at around $750,000.
The last step in purchasing a private jet is keeping it running, which is in no means to be underestimated! Insurance, fuel, catering and pilots can cost over $150,000 per year! There are then the costs of aviation lawyers who will help with the purchase, and of course the logistics of finding and selecting your crew and pilots, plane maintenance, coordinating flight schedules and parking the plane when it’s not in the sky. It’s an impossible job to do on your own. Thanks to our years of experience, Luxwing are well versed in all these operations, and help many clients daily with the management of their private plane – Helping to make sure that everything runs smoothly and is always ready for a last minute departure!
If you’re interested in getting your foot on the aviation ladder, give us a call and discover how we can help you in buying you your very own jet and managing it on and off the ground. Alternatively, we can give you the VIP treatment through chartered planes, meaning all the perks without the drama. If you’re looking for motivation, have a look at our article on the top 6 most expensive jets where number one costs a whopping half a billion dollars!

The Formula One season is well underway, and next weekend, the 5th race of the year will be held in Barcelona, Spain. A city full of architecture, beaches, nightlife and cuisine. So what better reason to plan a trip. The event is held at the circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – which is about 20km or a half hour car ride from Barcelona city center. The weekend event is split into three days, as usual, the first being Friday the 12th of May, which will consist of a few practice laps for drivers to get use to the track. Saturday 13thand Sunday 14th are the interesting days, as they are the Qualifying and Main Race respectively. There are a variety of tickets available including a three-day pass, which also gives you the possibility to take a walk around the pits.
If you are interested in going we’d recommend gathering your friends or family and taking one of our bigger planes such as our new Cessna Citation VI, capable of holding up to 8 passengers! You could then enjoy the race in comfort and style by booking a viewing suit at the track. Positioned just above the pit lanes, the suit offers room for up to 30 guests, including tapas and drinks, a hostess, and one of the best views of the race.
If you’re planning to go with a smaller group, why not take one of our smaller planes for up to 4 people such the Embraer Phenom 100, perfect for business and client trips. There are then plenty of tickets for seats in the stands for either a specific day, or for the entire weekend.
If you haven’t been to Barcelona before, or have already enjoyed the city and want to visit again, then this is the perfect time. Since winning his championship titles in 2005 and 2006, Fernando Alonso has become a major celebrity in Spain, increasing the sport’s popularity throughout the country. And despite his disappointing start to the season, you can expect a carnival atmosphere throughout the racecourse and the city center. If you have few more days available, there are plenty of historic buildings, cathedrals and restaurants you must check– including one which made it into our list of the top 10 restaurants to visit in Europe.
If you’re interested in the event, make sure you give us a call. Not only we will make sure we book you the perfect plane for your needs, we will also help to arrange all of your travel plans, from transfers, to tickets and eating to tourism. Experiencing Formula 1 won’t get better than this!
Our fleet is getting a little bigger soon, as we introduce a new plane in the form of the CESSNA Citation VI! The Citation VI is known for reliability as well as high performance, and is certified to the same level as commercial jet liners (FAR part 25).
The jet is also very fast! After climbing to its flight altitude of 51,000 feet it can reach speeds of 850 km/h, with a maximum range of 3,774 KM, giving you the ability to get around not only in Europe, but also longer routes such us Africa, Russia and other places! Its fantastic speed and wide range of operation are achieved thanks to the Citation VI’s aerodynamic design, lightweight materials and powerful engines, facilitating the smoothest, most comfortable ride possible.
Stepping inside our new plane you can immediately see that it’s very spacious. The plane is 1.8m high, 1.7m wide and a little over 7m long, giving a total volume of 241 cubic feet. All of this adds up to space for six passengers, two crew and plenty of storage for 1,400 litres of baggage!
We look forward to welcoming you into our new plane as soon as possible, give us a call to arrange a trip and check it out for yourself. You can also chat with us online and we’ll help arrange your entire trip in this, or one of our other planes, which you can get more information on and compare on the ‘Our Fleet’ page of our website here!
If you’ve been working hard recently, then spring is the perfect time to take a short break, and today, we’ve outlined some our most popular city destinations to help inspire you. We love city breaks, as it usually only takes a couple of days to take in the culture and see all the local sights. Here is our list of the most popular cities we fly to, and why we love each and every one.
10. Amsterdam, Netherlands
First on our list is the popular city breaks hot spot of Amsterdam. Full of culture and atmosphere, Amsterdam is a quaint little city that you just have to visit at some point in your life. The canals and bikes create an elegant, local feeling in the capital making it a truly unique city.
09. Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh is a medieval town full of castles and history. The city has a rich culture of theatre, and if you’re looking to experience this side of Edinburgh, head there in August for the world’s largest arts festival – The Fringe.
08. Berlin, Germany
There are plenty of historic sites in Berlin such as the Berlin wall and Reichstag building but Berlin also has a unique, hip culture when it comes to bars, clubs and of course beer – especially from the microbrewery’s. There is also plenty of street art and the rich urban culture has to be experienced if you want to take in all of Berlin.
07. Rome, Italy
Rome is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and for good reason. The city is crammed full with some of the most famous monuments in the world. Think the Colosseum, Vatican and the 2,000-year-old Pantheon. The good news is that despite the amount to see, it is possible to cram it all into a short weekend trip, and you’ll even get time to experience the fantastic dinning and buzzing night life.
06 – Las Vegas, United States of America
The party capital of the world – We all know what you should expect in Vegas, and there’s no better way to arrive than by private jet. Experience the none stop clubbing, enormous themed casinos and some great American cuisine. You’ll even get a chance to see replicas of other famous landmarks from around the world such as the Eiffel Tower, Egyptian Pyramids and Statue of Liberty.
05 – Marrakech, Morocco
There is plenty of culture in Morocco, and Marrakech is a perfect place to experience all of it. Whether you want to taste the authentic Moroccan cuisine, explore the enormous souk (the largest market in morocco) or take a trip to the desert, Marrakech has it all. They’ll also be time for a relaxing trip to the Hammam, or to enjoy a drink on the charming rooftops.
04 – Paris, France
As the most popular tourist destination in the world, there is no surprise that Paris has made it onto our list. With some beautiful attractions such as Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe and of course the Eiffel Tower you’ll wont get bored of tourist attractions. The city also has one of the largest collections of fine art galleries such as the Louvre. But why we really love Paris is the French culture. Shopping and eating off of the main street is a delight, and when you learn to blend in with the locals instead of the tourists, you can see why Paris is raved about by so many.
03 – Dubai, UAE
As a city that in the last 20 years has sprung up out of the ground, it’s safe to say that Dubai doesn’t have that much history. But it certainly makes up for that with the long list of activities and things to do whilst there. Whether you want skiing, shopping, theme parks or architecture, Dubai has world record holding titles in all categories. There is also year round sun so you can enjoy some of their beaches or go on an action packed adventure of the desert dunes.
02 – Barcelona, Spain
Golden beaches, beautiful architecture and a buzzing night life. What’s not to love about Barcelona. On your trip, make sure you visit the large market of La Rambla and check out Gaudi’s several masterpiece buildings spread across the city like the Casa Vicens, La Pedrea, Parc Güell and of course La Sagrada Familia. It’s also worth visiting some of the cathedrals in the gothic corner and of course sampling as much of the local Tapas and Wine as you can muster.
01 – New York City, United States of America
Number one on our list is the big apple. The city of cities. Although it may be a squeeze to fit in everything this city has to offer in one visit, we like a challenge! With world class galleries, architecture and dining, New York will leave you wanting a bit more every time you visit. You must check out Central Park during your visit and spend a few minutes pondering over the contrast between nature and skyscrapers. Check out the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island and enjoy a show on Broadway. The really amazing thing about New York City is the culture and atmosphere that it lets off. Being in Times Square, Wall Street or in Central Park feels like you are part of a movie, an experience that can’t be missed.
If you want slightly longer in your city of choice remember that when flying private with Luxwing you can spend less time in airports and planes, and more time experience what these fantastic cities have to offer! We’ll also load you up with advice on your destination, so that you can enjoy the spots which tourists don’t usually get to see. Contact us through our website, social media platforms or give us a call and we’ll help arrange you a city break that you won’t forget.
Italy is probably our favourite country in the world! Why? You have some of the most beautiful beaches for the summer, plenty of ski resorts for the winter, and arguably the best food and wine in the world, all year round. What’s not to love! Italy is the fifth most visited country by tourists each year, and thanks to its rich history and culture it also has the most UNESCO world heritage sites in the world (50!).
Food and wine are certainly one of the main reasons people visit the country. Not only is Italy the largest exporter of wine in the world, it is also is the birth place of some favourite international cuisines. Pizza and Pasta were of course invented here, and can be dated back as far as 2BC, meaning we’ve had plenty of time to perfect our recipe! Italy’s food is so good in fact, that on several tourism surveys it has been voted the best country in the world. When you are here, remember that the food is slightly different depending on region, if you are after Pizza the best can be found in Naples and if you want some of the best truffles in the world then Alba serves them by the bucket.
Coffee is another huge commodity in Italy, Italians consume 14 billion espressos a year, and although the coffee is not necessarily grown in Italy, attention to detail is taken over the grinding, temperature and even the kind of water used. Again, Napoli is probably the best place in the country to grab a great espresso, but the consistency is unparalleled throughout, so you’ll struggle to find a bad coffee wherever you go.
The temperature can reach 40°C in parts of Italy, and in the cites humidity levels can be unbearable, so you’ll want to find a spot to cool off. Italy’s coastline is a paradise, crystal clear blue sea and white beaches paired with mammoth portions of sea food and wine are hard to beat anywhere in the world. Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany and the Amalfi coast are some of our favourite regions for beaches. There are also many islands around the coast which can be accessed by a short trip on a yacht, there you’ll find some mystical gems and feel more in touch with the local’s way of life than on the mainland.
If its hiking and skiing you’re after, then Italy has you covered there too. The country is connected to the highest mountain ranges in Europe – the Dolomites and the Alps, with part of the Mont Blanc sitting nicely inside Italy. Italy also holds the only active volcanoes in Europe: Etna, Stromboli and Vesuvius which make for jaw dropping hikes. If skiing’s your thing, then resorts such as Cortina d’Ampezzo and Courmayeur offer world class skiing as well as the quality of food expected across Italy.
Tourism is one of Italy’s most profitable sectors and there’s no surprise why. The country is full of world famous monuments, bursting with culture and history. All of which are on most people’s bucket list. Some of the main attractions can be found in Rome – including the colosseum, the Trevi fountain and the world’s smallest country/ centre of the catholic church – the Vatican City. In other parts of Italy, you can find delights such as the ancient ruins of Pompeii, where time stands still after a volcano eruption preserved the city in 79AD, the leaning tower of Pisa and the canals of Venice.
If its glitz and glamour you’re after, you can’t miss a chance to visit lake Como, the upscale resort situated beside Italy’s third largest lake, is home to many celebrities including Madonna, George Clooney and Richard Branson. With picturesque views of the alps and bags of wildlife, it is one of the most beautiful and luxurious places to visit in Italy.
Lastly, how could we not mention the art in Italy. Several of the most influential Renaissance artists in the world originated here and the work certainly stands the test of time. Littered around all of Italy’s largest cities you can find work by Michelangelo, Da Vinci and Botticelli to name a few. You can see amazing sculptures such as Michelangelo’s Statue of David in Florence or world famous paintings such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper in Milan.
Are you tempted to make an impromptu trip to Italy yet? We’d love to help you explore our beautiful country by flying private. Just give us a call or contact us through our websites live chat, and we’ll arrange flights to as many cities as you can cram in! If there’s anything you’d like to hear us discuss in more detail, why not send us a message on Facebook. We’d be happy to write about it in the future!

At Luxwing, we love to eat almost as much as we love to fly! And what better way to combine the two than by checking out some of the best restaurants from around Europe! Have a look below at our top 10 favourites. How long will it take you to try them all?
Funky Gourmet – Athens, Greece
Setting the bar for this top 10 is Funky Gourmet in Athens, equipped with its two Michelin stars, Funky Gourmet serves food in an unconventional and innovative way, stimulating multiple senses through some of the most delicious foods and the finest ingredients. The restaurant was ranked amongst the best in Greece through 2010-2016, and has managed to hold onto the number one spot for the past two years.
La Pergola – Rome, Italy
Its cuisine, La Pergola in Rome takes the trophy. It was the first and is still the only restaurant in the city to be hold 3 Michelin stars, and it certainly deserves this title. The menu is fairly small, but the food is innovative and simple. The rare white truffle is a must. La Pergola has a spectacular wine list, and when you find a moment to take your mind off the food and drink, the view is spectacular, as La Pergola is located atop of the tallest hill in Rome.
La Marmite – St. Moritz, Switzerland
Possibly the best mountain food in the world, La Marmite is located on top of the exclusive Swiss alps resort of St Moritz. Even with the incentive of a ski in/ ski out approach, you’ll be in no rush to leave the restaurant, as the lobster, caviar and truffles are served by the bucket, and on sunnier days you may sit outside with the celebrity clientele to enjoy the stunning views and the vodka ice bar.
NOMA – Stockholm, Sweden
As a 4-time winner of the world’s best restaurant, NOMA is not one to be missed! The reinterpretation of Nordic cuisine has created a movement in modernised Scandinavian food which is currently spreading across the globe. The menu is full of vegetables and locally foraged ingredients and the combination of flavours is simply incredibly. Located in a hip, old warehouse in Stockholm, NOMA has for the past 14 years been creating a new style of high-class dining. If you’re not planning a trip to Stockholm don’t worry, René Redzepi has furthered the restaurants fashionable appearance by opening in some of the coolest cities in the World – London, Tokyo and Sydney.
El Celer De Can Roca – Catalonia, Spain
Chosen as the world’s best restaurant in both 2015 and 2013 and then number two for an additional four years, El Celer De Can Roca in Catalonia holds some of the most incredible Spanish cusine on the planet. The three Michelin star restaurant is owned and ran by three highly and individually respected brothers – each taking out a different task within the restaurant: The oldest is the chef and uses local ingredients and inventive presentation to create dishes such as caramelised olives on bonsai; The next brother is the sommelier and manages the huge 60,000 bottle wine cellar; and the youngest brother is the patissier who invents wild deserts, including some based on perfumes such as Calvin Klein Eternity and Bulgari. The restaurant is a little far out of town – about an hour north-east of Barcelona, but of course if your just flying in for the food Luxwing can help fly you closer than the international airports.
Le Meurice – Paris, France
As the most sophisticated and expensive restaurant in Europe you would expect big things, and Le Meurice in Paris doesn’t disappoint. The walls and plates are lined with gold and the seasonally updated menu holds the best truffles in the world, making this 2 Michelin star eatery the perfect spot for any truffle lover.
Dstage – Madrid, Spain
After receiving 2 Michelin stars working at El Club Allard, Diego Guerrero has recently gone on to open Dstage, his own, award winning restaurant which focuses on telling a story though food – Right from the beginning where you are escorted to the kitchen counter to sample a selection of tasters, to the end where you are encouraged to take home a copy of the menu. The food has a slight Asian and south American influence due to the chef’s recent travels, but the ingredients and presentation remain world class.
Osteria Francescana – Modena, Italy
Moving into our top three, we have the best restaurant in Italy, and after spending the past 4-years in the top 3 best restaurants in the world, Osteria Francescana has finally, and deservingly won its place as the best restaurant in the world – The first Italian Restaurant to claim this title. The 3 Michelin star establishment has taken on the difficult task of updating the very traditional Italian cuisine, a challenge which has triggered some criticism. However, the food (at least in our opinion) has if anything improved, and the modern tastes from the classic dishes are something which just has to be experienced.
Martin Berasategui – Lastarte, Spain
Martin Berasategui holds the most Michelin stars of any Spanish chef, and his signature restaurant is incredible. In fact, based on millions of genuine customer reviews, Trip advisor has just named it the best restaurant in the world! After holding its three Michelin star reputation for 14 years, the restaurants continue to serve small portions focusing on the quality both in terms of taste and presentation, as each dish looks like an absolute work of art, we recommend getting the 14 course tasting menu allows you to sample all the dishes, and some of the best Mediterranean food in the world.
The Fat Duck, Bray, England
After being crowned the best restaurant in the world in 2005, The Fat Duck’s fusion of taste and innovation makes it, in our opinion, one of the best restaurants in the world. The combination of perfectionism and innovation can be seen by the number of staff working in the restaurant. The small restaurant seats only 42 diners but matches that at a 1:1 ratio with 42 chefs perfecting each dish. On your visit, we once again recommend the 14 course tasting menu which includes delights such as ‘nitro scrambled eggs and bacon ice cream’, as well as various other uniquely prepared dishes.
Are you feeling hungry yet? Give us a call and we’ll help get you a reservation, and on the next flight to any of these top restaurants. We’d also love to hear your favourite recommendations. This is one of the most popular destinations to visit in Asia and its popularity is growing year on year. Check out our top 6 reasons below as to why Japan is the place to go this year!
The food
Right at the top of our list is the food and there’s no surprise that it’s here. With Sushi, Ramen and Udon to name a few, Japan has some of the most unique foods in the world and although they are now international staples, as the birth place of these delicacies you can expect the best of the best on every street corner, restaurant or bar. Japan also has the most three Micheline star restaurants in the world, so you can expect quality as well as quantity!
The culture
The culture in Japan feels as though it’s all about pleasing you! Although the language barriers can be difficult at times the locals will go out of their way to help you with anything and everything, and as well as being extremely polite and fun to talk to, they seem to have the amazing ability to remember your name, only after the first meeting! All of this means that Japan is the safest place in Asia and one of the safest places in the world, allowing you to have fun and enjoy yourself without constantly looking over your shoulder or being intimidated by a new country.
It just works!
One of the things that never seems to amaze us about Japan is the fact that everything just works! Firstly, it is ridiculously clean! Even Tokyo looks like something you would see in a Utopian sci-fi movie. You will never see litter scattered around the streets, and public servants are always smart and well dressed. Secondly the transport is just incredible! It has the third fastest trains in the world, and the trains are literally always on time. So much so that if a train is more than 5 minutes late you will receive an apology and a delay certificate to show at work. If a train is over an hour late, it may even make the news!
Beautiful structures
The ancient Buddhist temples and shrines are something not to be missed! These one of a kind structures will blow your mind as to how beautiful and pretty they look amongst the trees in bloom. If you want to see some of the best buildings, head to Kyoto which is one of the best preserved cities in Japan or Nara which is home to 8 UNESCO world heritage sites!
Beautiful landscapes
So far we’ve spoken a lot about the cities, buildings and technology in Japan, but have you ever thought about the natural scenery? Mount Fuji is of course the first to come to mind, and, as the tallest peak in Japan it’s absolutely stunning, even to look at from the bottom. There are also plenty of bamboo gardens to stroll through on a spring day.
The most advance country in Asia and even the World
We’ve all noticed that half of the electronics in our homes are made in Japan and what this means is that the country is heavily surrounded by futuristic tech! In fact, everywhere you go you’ll be surprised by something new and amazing making it feel as if you’ve broken free of the 21st century and been flown to somewhere in the future.
What are your thoughts? Are you interested in visiting Japan or do you have somewhere else in mind? Let us know on one of our social platforms where is your dream destination and we might feature it in one of our news articles!
